France wildfires approach Bordeaux as evacuations expand

Wildfires in southwest France moved toward the outskirts of Bordeaux on Sunday, prompting intensified firefighting efforts and precautionary evacuations in nearby municipalities. Authorities said around 220,000 people have been evacuated across France, while in Spain more than 75,000 have been evacuated and about 30,000 ordered to shelter in place. Fires have ravaged the Cap Ferret peninsula on the Atlantic coast and burned through surrounding areas near Bordeaux, though officials said there were no current plans to evacuate the city of about 850,000 people. In Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez visited affected areas in Avila, Madrid and Toledo provinces on Sunday.
