Donald Trump moved to shut down speculation about a 2028 run, telling reporters en route to South Korea that the 22nd Amendment makes another bid off-limits despite his “best polling numbers for any president in many years.” Earlier, he had left the door open but rejected a vice-presidential workaround as “too cute” and “wouldn’t be right.” House Speaker Mike Johnson said he doesn’t see a path to amending the Constitution, noting it can take about a decade. The 22nd bars third terms, while the 12th complicates any VP route, despite theories circulating in Trump’s orbit.

The Lions agreed to a four-year extension with Aidan Hutchinson, his agent Mike McCartney announced Wednesday. Multiple initial reports value it at $180 million with $141 million guaranteed. The 2022 No. 2 pick has surged after a season-ending leg fracture just over a year ago, posting 6.0 sacks, six tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, and a league-leading four forced fumbles in seven games, with sacks in five straight. Detroit, under Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, has also extended Amon‑Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell. After a Week 8 bye, they host the Vikings on Sunday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has hired Michele Beckwith as a deputy legal affairs secretary after she was fired as acting U.S. attorney in Sacramento. After defending her on X with a post warning, 'DEMOCRACY IS ON THE BRINK!', a spokeswoman praised her experience, saying, 'Trump’s loss is California’s gain.' Beckwith was dismissed less than six hours after telling Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino that a planned operation must follow court orders and the Constitution; two days later, agents raided a Home Depot lot in Sacramento. The White House referred questions to the Justice Department, which declined to comment.

Japan is grappling with a surge of bear encounters—more than 100 people injured and 11 killed, a record—as the government prepares to send Self-Defense Forces to Akita Prefecture. Troops will help set box traps and remove carcasses, while local hunters handle extermination. Officials cite scarcity of beechnuts linked to climate change, shrinking rural populations, and rising bear numbers pushing animals into towns, even near Tokyo. Reports range from supermarket intrusions to school and train-track scares; Iwate University shut for two days. Akita’s governor sought aid, saying hunters are exhausted; planning teams will deploy first.

Author Michael Wolff says President Donald Trump tried to hide plans to raze the White House East Wing to speed a $300 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom. Demolition began the morning of Oct. 20, with the public largely unaware until Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the change days later. Wolff recounts Trump asking if it could happen at night and notes demolition moved ahead without the usual reviews, amid leadership changes and firings at federal commissions. The administration restricted photos and put up a fence, while donors—including major tech firms—reportedly fund the project amid internal talk of a 'Trump Ballroom.'

On Greece’s islands, shrinking families are reshaping daily life: in Lemnos, a 4-year-old sits alone in class as birthrates fall to 1.3 and more than 700 schools close nationwide. Limited health services push expectant mothers to travel, often at high cost, while an Athens nonprofit, HOPEgenesis, funds care for women in remote areas. Parents ferry children between islands for school, weather permitting. Locals debate immigration, identity and why young people have fewer children; the government has offered new tax incentives. Some fear villages will vanish, even as others remain optimistic.

Giants running back Cam Skattebo went from Lincoln Financial Field straight to surgery after dislocating his ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. Ian Rapoport reports he also fractured his fibula and ruptured the deltoid ligament; the team said the procedure went well, and he’s expected to be ready for offseason work. The Giants placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. The fourth-round pick logged 110 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns before the injury. In his absence, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary will handle the Giants’ backfield.

Dictionary.com on Wednesday named “67” as its 2025 Word of the Year, describing the annual pick as a linguistic time capsule. The term—pronounced “six-seven,” not “sixty-seven”—spread among kids and teens as brainrot slang that can signal “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that.” Its lore touches Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot (6 7),” NBA player LaMelo Ball’s 6-foot-7 height, and a viral “67 Kid.” Director of lexicography Steve Johnson calls it an interjection. The site says “67” appeared six times more often in October. Finalists included agnetic, aura farming, Gen Z stare, overtourism, tariff, and tradwife.

Israeli strikes across Gaza overnight killed at least 100 people and wounded about 250, local health officials said, marking the deadliest day since a cease-fire began three weeks ago. The barrage followed Israeli accusations that Hamas violated the truce by failing to return captives’ bodies and by attacking troops in Rafah, where one Israeli soldier was killed. Defense Minister Israel Katz said dozens of Hamas commanders were slain; the military said the cease-fire resumed at 10 a.m. Hospitals reported severe shortages. At Nasser Hospital, women wept over children’s bodies. Hamas denied the Rafah attack; President Trump backed Israel’s response.

The Broncos will keep cornerback Pat Surtain off injured reserve after he hurt his pectoral in a Week 8 win over the Cowboys, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. He won’t face the Texans this week, but Denver’s upcoming games against the Raiders and Chiefs lead into a Week 12 bye that could buy him more recovery time without additional absences. Surtain started the first eight games this season and has 27 tackles with nine passes defensed.
