Dictionary.com on Wednesday named “67” as its 2025 Word of the Year, describing the annual pick as a linguistic time capsule. The term—pronounced “six-seven,” not “sixty-seven”—spread among kids and teens as brainrot slang that can signal “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that.” Its lore touches Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot (6 7),” NBA player LaMelo Ball’s 6-foot-7 height, and a viral “67 Kid.” Director of lexicography Steve Johnson calls it an interjection. The site says “67” appeared six times more often in October. Finalists included agnetic, aura farming, Gen Z stare, overtourism, tariff, and tradwife.

Israeli strikes across Gaza overnight killed at least 100 people and wounded about 250, local health officials said, marking the deadliest day since a cease-fire began three weeks ago. The barrage followed Israeli accusations that Hamas violated the truce by failing to return captives’ bodies and by attacking troops in Rafah, where one Israeli soldier was killed. Defense Minister Israel Katz said dozens of Hamas commanders were slain; the military said the cease-fire resumed at 10 a.m. Hospitals reported severe shortages. At Nasser Hospital, women wept over children’s bodies. Hamas denied the Rafah attack; President Trump backed Israel’s response.

The Broncos will keep cornerback Pat Surtain off injured reserve after he hurt his pectoral in a Week 8 win over the Cowboys, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. He won’t face the Texans this week, but Denver’s upcoming games against the Raiders and Chiefs lead into a Week 12 bye that could buy him more recovery time without additional absences. Surtain started the first eight games this season and has 27 tackles with nine passes defensed.

One night after outmaneuvering Toronto in an 18-inning epic, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts drew heat for yanking Shohei Ohtani in the seventh of Game 4, a 6-2 loss that knotted the World Series 2-2. With Ohtani at 93 pitches and two aboard, Roberts turned to Anthony Banda and then Blake Treinen; both surrendered run-scoring hits as Toronto stretched a 2-1 edge to 6-1. Roberts cited lefty matchups, but fans bristled online. Ohtani allowed six hits and one walk. Los Angeles hands Game 5 to Blake Snell against Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage, a rematch of Game 1.

At PMQs, the economy dominated ahead of next month’s Budget. Kemi Badenoch pressed Keir Starmer on Labour’s pledge not to raise income tax, National Insurance or VAT and on opposing the Conservatives’ move to scrap stamp duty; Starmer shot back that the Tories failed to abolish it in 14 years and said austerity and Brexit harmed growth as the OBR revises productivity forecasts. Badenoch branded him tax-obsessed and “too weak.” Ed Davey urged a probe into Russian meddling; Starmer called Reform UK “Putin friendly,” which Richard Tice dismissed as “absolute rubbish.”

Opposition posters in Buenos Aires cast Javier Milei over a US flag as voters weighed Donald Trump’s alleged interference and a $40bn US bailout announced days before the midterms, with a warning it would be withdrawn if he lost. Defying polls and economic turmoil, Milei won about 41% to 32%, securing a congressional majority with PRO. Inflation fell from above 200% to around 30% after deep cuts, even as wages, jobs and businesses sank. Analysts and voters cited fear of crisis, anti-Peronism and lower inflation, fueling debate over whether US pressure, not support for Milei, drove the result.

After nearly two hours of talks, the US and South Korea said they reached a broad trade deal: reciprocal tariffs will fall from 25% to 15%, and Seoul will invest $350bn in the US, including $200bn in cash and $150bn in shipbuilding, a presidential aide said. President Donald Trump called it “pretty much finalised” and said they also discussed national security. The visit unfolded amid protests and a North Korean missile test, as Trump prepares to meet China’s Xi Jinping at the Apec summit in Gyeongju; Beijing says the meeting will be in Busan.

U.S. stocks pointed higher premarket Wednesday as investors eyed corporate earnings and a Federal Reserve decision expected to deliver a 25-basis-point cut amid scant data and a slowing job market. Futures for the S&P 500, Dow and Nasdaq rose after all three hit record highs, while Nvidia jumped again, touching $5.05 trillion in value on fresh chip orders, and Caterpillar rallied on a 10% revenue gain. Asian shares mostly advanced on upbeat comments from President Donald Trump and ahead of a planned meeting with China’s Xi; Europe was mixed. Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft and Starbucks report later; oil prices inched up.

Explosive-laden drones struck Badiraguato, the hometown of jailed drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, forcing dozens to flee, Sinaloa’s governor said. Authorities gave no dates; displaced residents said the attacks began in September, with one citing Sept. 16. Witnesses reported strikes near Guzman’s family farm, blocked access to properties, and power cutoffs, threatening more than 80 families. The government is assisting evacuees, and AFP sought confirmation of the reported targets. Days earlier, three explosive drones hit the prosecutor’s office in Tijuana, causing damage but no injuries, as criminal groups in Mexico increasingly use weaponized drones.

Jamaica is counting the cost after Hurricane Melissa made landfall, flooding western Jamaica, with St. Elizabeth underwater, leaving more than half a million without power, and trapping families as rescue teams work to reach them. Kingston avoided the worst, and the airport may reopen for relief flights tomorrow, while the storm batters Cuba’s west coast. In Gaza, Israel launched "forceful strikes" after a soldier was killed, with Gaza Civil Defense reporting about 100 Palestinians dead; Israel says it killed 30 militants. Meanwhile, unpaid U.S. air traffic controllers report strain during the shutdown, though delays remain mostly typical.
