The FBI said a September attack on a Latter-day Saints chapel in Grand Blanc Township was driven by the gunman’s anti-religious beliefs. Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, a former US Marine, rammed a pickup into the building, opened fire on congregants, and used gasoline to set it ablaze before being killed by responding officers amid shouts of "Drop the gun!" Four people were killed and, the FBI now says, nine injured. Victims were identified by loved ones. Church leaders later urged forgiveness, and members raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the gunman’s family.
