Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, a Villanova University alumnus, has been elected as the 267th Pope, taking the name Leo XIV. He is the first American and the first Augustinian friar to hold the position. Pope Leo XIV's career includes extensive work in Peru and leadership roles within the Augustinian order. His selection follows his appointment as a cardinal in 2023 and his recent service as prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. Villanova University celebrated this historic milestone for their alumnus and the Catholic Church.
