Hyundai Motor Delays In-House Driver-Assist System to 2029

Hyundai Motor Group announced it will launch vehicles equipped with its proprietary Atria AI driver-assistance platform in the second half of 2029, marking a two-year delay from its previous target of late 2027. Executives detailed the revised roadmap during a media briefing at autonomous driving unit 42dot's headquarters in Seongnam. To bridge the gap, Hyundai established an interim partnership with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia. The automaker plans to deploy Level 2+ driver-assistance systems powered by Nvidia's Hyperion 10 platform in the first half of 2028, followed by Level 2++ capabilities in the second half of 2028. These interim systems will utilize cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors rather than expensive lidar units. Hyundai executives stated the timeline adjustment is a strategic choice to ensure software maturity and avoid a rushed release. The company intends to leverage its massive global sales volume exceeding seven million units annually to harvest real-world driving data, feeding a continuous training cycle known as a data flywheel.
