Glass Thinner Than a Human Hair: How the New iPhone Bends but Doesn’t Break
PUBLISHED Sep 13, 2026, 7:50 AM ET
Apple officially introduced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, marking its entrance into the foldable smartphone market under newly appointed CEO John Ternus. The device features a passport-style design with a 5.4-inch cover screen and an expansive 7.6-inch inner flexible OLED main display. Utilizing microengineered ultra-thin flexible glass under 30 micrometers thick—finer than a human hair—the display withstands repeated flexing by reducing outer surface edge tension. Powered by the A20 Pro chip, the iPhone Duo incorporates a grade 5 titanium enclosure, a custom magnetic hinge, and advanced multi-layer lamination designed to mitigate screen creasing. Starting at $1,999 for 256GB storage, the high-end handset is Apple's most expensive iPhone to date. The device features dual 48-megapixel wide and ultra-wide cameras, eSIM-only connectivity, and side-by-side app multitasking capabilities. Preorders begin October 16, 2026, with worldwide retail availability starting October 23, 2026.
