Iran: US strikes key Golestan railway bridge

Iran – The United States military on Thursday carried out cruise missile strikes across several Iranian provinces, including a high-profile attack on the Aq Tekeh Khan railway bridge in northern Golestan, according to Iranian state-linked media. The operation marked the second consecutive day of renewed American airstrikes on Iranian territory and effectively ended an interim ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran. Iranian officials said the bridge, a multi-billion-dollar project in rugged terrain, serves as a critical railway corridor linking Iran to Turkmenistan and onward overland routes to China and Russia, facilitating the movement of energy resources, commercial goods and potentially military hardware. Iran – Following the morning strike on the bridge, an Iranian official reported that a separate US airstrike targeted the vicinity of Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant, while additional explosions were heard in other parts of the country as more targets came under attack. Iran’s Health Ministry said at least 14 people were killed and 78 wounded over two days of US operations, with most casualties among the armed forces. In response, Iranian armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missile and drone attacks against US-allied states including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan, prompting air raid sirens and air defense interceptions across the region as tensions escalated.
