A former DeKalb County police officer, Derrick Harris Jr., was charged with involuntary manslaughter after his firearm allegedly discharged during an arrest Tuesday evening, fatally wounding 19-year-old Seth Jayden Eccles in a backyard, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation filings; the shooting followed earlier questioning by U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents. Authorities said the GBI filed criminal charges Wednesday and reported that Eccles had been questioned earlier about an armed robbery of a mail carrier, had an active warrant, and was located after multiple 911 calls; Harris surrendered Thursday and investigators are reviewing body-camera footage, witness statements, forensic evidence and procedural compliance as the case proceeds.
