Redmond wildfire prompts urgent evacuations near homes

A fast-moving vegetation fire in northwest Redmond, Oregon, threatened rural residential areas and critical infrastructure on the evening of Saturday, July 4, 2026. The Coyner Fire, identified as Incident 0834, ignited around 8:30 p.m. near Coyner Road and Helmholtz Way and spread quickly through dry grass, brush, and juniper trees, driven by evening winds. Flames advanced along a canal road behind several homes and near high-voltage power lines, prompting the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office to issue Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders and Level 2 “Be Set” warnings. A temporary evacuation point was opened at Highland Baptist Church for displaced residents.
