Arizona wildfire threatens Oak Creek Canyon communities

SEDONA, Arizona – Fire crews in northern Arizona are working to reinforce fire lines around the Pocket Fire as a critical three-day Red Flag Warning begins, raising the risk of rapid spread. As of June 26, 2026, the wildfire has burned 1,467 acres in Oak Creek Canyon, about seven miles north of Sedona, and remains zero percent contained. Authorities have placed Oak Creek Canyon under a “SET” evacuation status and closed it to the general public. State Route 89A and large areas of the surrounding Coconino National Forest are closed as nearly 1,000 personnel, aircraft, and heavy equipment battle the blaze.
