Israel will begin formal peace talks with Lebanon at the U.S. State Department on Tuesday but says it will not discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah, according to Israeli ambassador Yechiel Leiter. The Lebanese government and the Trump administration have asked Israel to pause attacks before negotiations, Reuters reported, while the White House offered no immediate comment. Israel launched strikes and a ground invasion of Lebanon after attacking Iran on Feb. 28, in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah. Lebanese authorities report over 1,950 deaths, including more than 350 on Wednesday, the first full day of the US Iran ceasefire.
