The Perseid meteor shower, peaking August 12-13, will be hampered by a near-full moon, washing out fainter meteors. Optimal viewing will be before and after the peak, specifically July 18-28 when moonlight is minimal. While the peak will have reduced visibility, some shooting stars should still be visible before and after this period due to the shower's bright meteors, traveling at 37 miles per second. Even with the moon's interference, dedicated stargazers should catch a glimpse.
