The NBA is grappling with a federal sports-betting investigation, with allegations surrounding Hall of Famer and Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, who was arrested as part of multiple probes. Warriors coach Steve Kerr described players facing hostile messages from bettors and detailed team briefings on what’s prohibited, including telling friends a player isn’t playing. Nuggets coach Rodney Billups’ ties added a personal layer, as David Adelman stressed support and discretion. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said Billups didn’t respond to outreach. Al Horford urged greater league protection and ongoing education.

At least 25 people died and several were injured early Friday when a motorcycle rammed a passenger bus and sparked a fire that engulfed the vehicle near Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, police said. Flames tore through the bus within minutes as it sped along the highway; most of the 44 passengers were asleep. Some smashed windows to escape with minor injuries, but others were trapped as the driver’s extinguisher failed. The biker also died. Bodies were burned beyond recognition. Leaders offered condolences, and forensic experts began investigating.

Late-night hosts skewered President Trump’s plan for a 90,000-square-foot White House ballroom, citing a donor list that includes Amazon, Apple, Comcast, Google, Microsoft, T-Mobile, Meta Platforms and Hard Rock International. They riffed on a $100 million cost jump to $300 million and cracked that East Wing demolition has become a flash point, even as the White House released donor names. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed criticism as jealousy. The comics also joked about Trump’s idea for a glass bridge to the ballroom and exaggerated the pace and scale of the teardown.

Kathryn Bigalow’s A House of Dynamite imagines a lone nuclear missile racing toward the U.S., then locks viewers inside the real-time decisions of the president, generals and staff. Experts say the surprise single-warhead attack and two-interceptor response strain credibility, even as the “doomsday” conference call, authentic settings, and ever-present nuclear “football” ring true. Several argue a president would likely ride out the strike and wait for attribution rather than launch on warning. With arsenals expanding and a key treaty set to lapse early next year, the film’s timing feels unnervingly apt.

Britain convened allies in London to weigh a boycott of Russian oil and gas, a loan to Ukraine using Russian sovereign assets, and faster weapon deliveries, as President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders from Denmark, the Netherlands and NATO joined Prime Minister Keir Starmer. After President Trump sanctioned Rosneft and Lukoil, the European Union announced its latest round of sanctions and pledged continued financial and military support. Britain said it would speed delivery of an extra 100 air-defense missiles and provide 140 more this winter under a £1.6 billion deal. Belgium’s legal concerns stalled an E.U. loan plan.

Goldman Sachs says firms passed 37% of new tariffs to consumers, pushed 9% to suppliers and absorbed 51% — a hit big enough to reverse inflation’s fall, yet less pass-through than at the same point in the prior tariff burst. Companies from Nike and Mattel to Raytheon and 3M report heavy costs; automakers are holding prices and eating margins. Some producers like Cleveland‑Cliffs are gaining as imports get pricier. Executives and bankers expect more pass-through ahead, keeping inflation sticky. Big companies can squeeze suppliers, while a small tea maker just imposed its largest price hike.

Week 7’s waiver wire jolted to life after Monday’s doubleheader, driven by breakouts and injury twists. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart set career highs in passing and rushing TDs, igniting a Dart-versus-Joe Flacco debate, even as Flacco has five TDs and no picks in two games. Marcus Mariota is in play with Jayden Daniels’ hamstring MRI clouding starts. Bears’ Kyle Monangai saw committee work, while Chargers tight end Oronde Gadsden erupted for 164 yards and became a priority add. Rookie TE Colston Loveland could benefit from Cole Kmet’s back injury. Analysts urge caution and close injury monitoring.

Reiterating its commitment to unflinching, fact-based journalism, the newsroom thanked readers for the support that strengthened its reporting during uncertain times. It said that initial backing helped bolster operations and keep the team strong, and now, as it continues its work, it is asking for renewed help. The message closes with gratitude and an invitation to join once again.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche warned California officials he would prosecute them if they try to arrest federal immigration agents. His letter followed statements by Rep. Nancy Pelosi and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, who said they may seek warrants against agents using excessive force. Citing the Constitution’s supremacy clause, Blanche said federal enforcement will continue. The administration planned to send border agents to Alameda for a Bay Area operation; President Trump later called off a San Francisco crackdown, leaving plans for the rest of the region unclear. Critics say the deployments punish Democratic-led cities and spread fear.

As dusk neared in Texas, Stephany Gauffeny cradled her newborn at the unmarked grave of her husband, Miguel García-Hernández, 31, who died on 29 September after being shot while shackled in a van outside ICE's Dallas field office. Authorities said the gunman targeted ICE officials, but only detainees were injured. García-Hernández had entered custody that morning after a DUI jail stay. Gauffeny, now facing bills and online hate, is weighing legal action. Mexico arranged humanitarian parole so his mother could travel to the US before he died.
