Internal Interior Department drafts obtained by CBS News show the Trump administration is moving to auction offshore drilling leases in new areas as soon as 2026, including waters off New England, the Carolinas and California. The push follows a formal move to reopen 1.56 million acres in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, drawing sharp Democratic criticism and bipartisan resistance from coastal governors. Documents note state opposition and outline potential sales in the Beaufort Sea by 2026 and California by 2027. The Interior Department plans to release a proposal soon, with multiple public comment periods to follow.

The Pentagon acknowledged receiving an anonymous $130 million gift to help cover service members’ salaries and benefits during the shutdown, accepted under its general gift acceptance authority. Chief spokesperson Sean Parnell said the donor required the funds be used for troops’ pay, and expressed gratitude. Trump, calling the donor a “patriot,” announced the contribution at the White House. Yet the sum is a fraction of the roughly $6.5 billion needed per pay cycle. In the Senate, competing measures to pay military and other workers—one GOP-backed, one from Democrats—both failed to advance.

In Buffalo, principal Brianna Lanoye’s repeated wish to invite her entire school to her wedding turned into a heartfelt surprise. Days before her real ceremony, staff dressed her in a makeshift gown and led her into the Buffalo Academy of Science courtyard, where more than 400 students and staff watched Lanoye and fiancé Zach Klapp exchange vows and candy ring pops, with a student officiating. Lanoye, blown away, laughed at teasing that she loves students most, calling the moment everything she wanted and hoping they felt just as loved.

ABC News-verified footage captures a man clubbing a Palestinian woman in Turmus’ayya as settlers chased farmers, blocked roads, torched cars and beat people with sticks and stones, witnesses said. American journalist Jasper Nathaniel and Palestinian-American Yaser Alkem say nearby IDF troops failed to intervene despite warnings. The State Department said it prioritizes U.S. citizens’ safety, reported no Americans wounded in Turmus Ayya on Oct. 19, and is monitoring. The woman, identified as 55-year-old Afaf Abu Alia, is hospitalized with brain bleeding, the mayor said. A UN official warned of “skyrocketing” settler violence. The IDF did not comment.

Chicago’s immigration crackdown spilled onto quiet North Side streets Friday, where federal agents arrived at a Lakeview home and a construction crew scattered; one worker was detained as neighbors confronted agents. Residents said tear gas was fired without warning, leaving people coughing and rinsing their eyes. Similar arrests and street interrogations have unfolded this week in Little Village, the Southwest Side, and affluent areas like Lincoln Park. A federal judge earlier restricted tear gas use and ordered Border Patrol leader Gregory Bovino to appear Tuesday. Mayor Brandon Johnson said remote learning should be considered.

Sony/Crunchyroll’s Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc slashed to No. 1 with about $8 million Friday and a projected $14 million-plus weekend, despite the World Series opening night in anime-strong Los Angeles. Its online footprint is enormous: RelishMix estimates a half‑billion social reach and 351 million YouTube views, with fans praising MAPPA’s visuals, manga fidelity and Kenshi Yonezu’s soundtrack. Previews drew $3.4 million. A tight pack trails—Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Regretting You, and Black Phone 2—each eyeing $10.8–$12 million. Tron: Ares targets $4 million+, while Shelby Oaks aims for $2.5 million.

Nearly two years after Shohei Ohtani chose the Dodgers in free agency, the Toronto Blue Jays will face him first in Game 1 of the World Series at Rogers Centre on Friday at 8 p.m. ET, airing exclusively on FOX. Manager John Schneider joked he wants back the Blue Jays cap and Decoy’s jacket gifted during their 2023 meeting in Dunedin; Ohtani smiled that they’re “in my garage.” The Dodgers star follows a strong season and a three-homer, six-shutout-innings NLCS performance, as Los Angeles and Toronto meet on baseball’s biggest stage.

JPMorgan Chase asked a court to end what it calls “abusive billing” by Charlie Javice and Olivier Amar, saying it has covered nearly $115 million in their legal costs under its agreement from buying their startup, Frank. In a late-Friday filing, the bank said Javice’s lawyers billed about $60.1 million and Amar’s about $55.2 million, with one firm reimbursed $35.6 million. A Delaware court earlier ruled JPMorgan must advance fees under the 2021 acquisition agreement. Javice, 33, and Amar were convicted of duping the bank. JPMorgan warned of “irreparable” harm and called the fees “patently excessive.”

Deleted posts and an acquaintance's account are challenging Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner’s assertion that he only recently learned his chest tattoo had Nazi roots. A KFile probe found the Marine veteran, using a Reddit handle 'P-Hustle', in 2019–2020 threads defending SS-style 'bolts' and skull iconography as Marine culture. The acquaintance says he joked about the Totenkopf years ago; the campaign declined comment and disputes reports. Platner says he got the tattoo in 2007 while drinking in Croatia, has since covered it, and disavows earlier inflammatory Reddit remarks.

At a Bronx mosque, Democratic NYC mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani vowed to more openly embrace his Muslim identity amid escalating attacks from Andrew Cuomo and surrogates that he called racist. He invoked family fears after 9/11 and said he would no longer hide his identity. Cuomo denied widespread Islamophobia, accused Mamdani of playing victim, and faced criticism over a radio exchange about 9/11 and a campaign video later removed. Mayor Eric Adams and Republican Curtis Sliwa also raised terrorism rhetoric. Mamdani won Hakeem Jeffries’ endorsement Friday.
