At a Bronx mosque, Democratic NYC mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani vowed to more openly embrace his Muslim identity amid escalating attacks from Andrew Cuomo and surrogates that he called racist. He invoked family fears after 9/11 and said he would no longer hide his identity. Cuomo denied widespread Islamophobia, accused Mamdani of playing victim, and faced criticism over a radio exchange about 9/11 and a campaign video later removed. Mayor Eric Adams and Republican Curtis Sliwa also raised terrorism rhetoric. Mamdani won Hakeem Jeffries’ endorsement Friday.
