President Trump threatened military action in Nigeria over attacks on Christians, with the Pentagon preparing options. But the article argues his U.S. aid cuts are likely killing far more Nigerians than jihadi violence. Independent data shows far fewer religion-targeted deaths than some public figures claim, and both Christians and Muslims are victims amid wider insecurity. Humanitarian programs previously saved an estimated 270,000 Nigerian lives annually. Rather than an intervention that may waste money, the piece contends, restoring vaccines, AIDS treatment and food aid would save lives.

Metsera said Friday it agreed to be acquired by Pfizer after a bidding war with Novo Nordisk, at up to $86.25 a share, slightly above Novo’s latest offer valuing Metsera around $10 billion. The move advances Pfizer’s push into weight-loss medicines, though Metsera’s drugs remain in trials. The price is billions above Pfizer’s September offer of $47.50 a share. Pfizer has sued Metsera and Novo in Delaware, alleging breach of contract and anticompetitive tactics, and accused Novo of trying to stifle a nascent rival. Metsera said the Federal Trade Commission warned a Novo deal would face U.S. antitrust risks.

The Justice Department launched a fresh probe into the Obama-era intelligence assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 election, issuing grand jury subpoenas from the Southern District of Florida, according to people familiar. Records tied to the January 2017 report are sought, with possible recipients including former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page; as many as 30 subpoenas are expected. It’s unclear whether criminal charges will follow. The review revisits the Steele dossier’s handling as earlier reports affirmed Russia’s hack-and-leak and social media campaigns.

A year after Kamala Harris’s concession, Democrats shook off despair with coast to coast wins that exceeded expectations. Abigail Spanberger became Virginia’s first woman governor; Mikie Sherrill turned a tight New Jersey race into a rout; and in New York, Zohran Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo to become the city’s first Muslim mayor amid the highest turnout in decades. Gavin Newsom’s redistricting measure passed as voters still waited in line. A sharper, combative posture—from mass protests to a shutdown standoff and hardball map fights—fuels momentum even as ideological rifts and 2026 dangers remain.

Zohran Mamdani, who will be New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor, defined his improbable run with vivid blue and orange graphics that nodded to Bollywood posters and the city’s bodegas, taxis, and carts. Designed by Aneesh Bhoopathy with a retro, hand-painted feel, the look stood out so strongly that Andrew Cuomo adopted similar colors for his independent bid after losing the Democratic primary. Scholars compared the branding’s impact to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s, noting viral merch and a takeaway: specific, meaningful visuals resonate.

The Arizona Cardinals are weighing Kyler Murray’s future as a mid March trigger approaches that would guarantee another $19.5 million. Extensive talks are expected, but sources believe a split is likely, with one saying “a separation is imminent.” Murray was placed on injured reserve with a mid foot sprain, sidelined at least four games while Jacoby Brissett starts; with Brissett, Arizona has averaged 25.7 points and 357 yards versus 18.8 and 288 with Murray. Murray has $36.8 million guaranteed next year. A trade would save $35.3 million; a release could mean $57.7 million in dead cap.

Cheers swept Goldman Sachs’ London floor as Paulo Costa, 29, learned he’d been promoted to managing director — the youngest in this year’s 638-person class. An executive director overseeing dividend trading across EMEA, Costa’s rise follows a strong quarter for the equities division, with revenue up 7% year over year and financing cited as a driver. His wife, a prime broker seated a few rows away, got his first call before Champagne toasts on the eighth floor and a gathering of about 150 people. Seasoned by pandemic turmoil, he welcomes the role’s gravitas without forcing a new leadership stance.

Baylor is investigating athletic director Mack Rhoades after reports he grabbed tight end Michael Trigg by the shirt and cursed at him on the sideline over a gold undershirt during the Sept. 20 game against Arizona State. Head coach Dave Aranda and tight ends coach Jarrett Anderson later confronted Rhoades in a heated exchange, and the moment reportedly lingered for Trigg, who wore the long sleeves to cover a shoulder brace. Baylor lost 27-24 on a last-second field goal, though Trigg had five catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Rhoades appeared Tuesday as College Football Playoff committee chair.

New Jersey Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill said voters chose her to “get their costs down” — fast — and promised Day 1 action. In an interview with Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan, the House Democrat and former Navy helicopter pilot said voters want a “sense of urgency” and pledged a state of emergency to freeze utility rates. Earlier, she told CNN there is “too much caution and mediocrity” in her party. Sherrill beat Republican Jack Ciattarelli by 13.6 points in a race centered on cost of living. The interview airs Sunday, Nov. 9.
