Eight Senate caucus members who joined Republicans to pass a stopgap funding bill won’t face voters next year. The Senate approved the measure 60–40, reopening the government through January 30 with back pay for furloughed workers but without reversing Medicaid cuts or extending ACA subsidies. GOP leader John Thune pledged a separate vote on subsidies by mid December, while House Speaker Mike Johnson hasn’t committed. Premiums could double for 22 million people if credits lapse. The deal, led by Democrats Dick Durbin and Jeanne Shaheen, triggered intense intraparty anger amid the record shutdown that began October 1.

Kia on Monday previewed its next-generation Telluride, calling it a new benchmark for the brand. The 2027 model, expected in U.S. showrooms in the first quarter, grows larger and boxier with a modern look, a broad grille framed by vertical headlamps, and a sleek rear silhouette reminiscent of a Range Rover. Kia released images of the X-Pro ahead of a full reveal later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Telluride sales have risen every year since 2019, topping 444,000 total and up 11% through October; current trims start from $36,000 to $54,000.

PlayStation architect Mark Cerny signaled Sony’s next console will shift from proprietary chipsets to a more PC-like design, developed with AMD under Project Amethyst. He says a redesigned GPU and machine‑learning features—upscaling, denoising, and neural texture compression—target better graphics and power efficiency, with full FSR 4 support in the works. Community response to early chatbot tests was underwhelming. As PC releases now generate about a third of first‑party revenue, Sony is steering toward easier PC–PlayStation development, with a leak hinting at cross‑buy for play on both PC and PS5.

Rob Gronkowski will sign a ceremonial one-day deal with the New England Patriots on Wednesday to “retire as a Patriot for life,” a tribute to close friend and local philanthropist Susan Hurley, who died of ovarian cancer on Nov. 1 at 62. Announcing the plan Sunday on Fox Sports, the former tight end said owner Robert Kraft fast-tracked an honor initially slated for his team Hall of Fame eligibility next year. Gronkowski starred for the Patriots from 2010-2018, winning three Super Bowls, then added another with Tampa Bay, and still calls Foxborough home.

Stefany Shaheen, running for a New Hampshire House seat on a health care platform, split with her mother, senator Jeanne Shaheen, over a deal to end the government shutdown that lacked an extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits. The younger Shaheen said their approaches differ and insisted, “Otherwise, no deal.” Democrats fumed at eight senators who brokered the agreement and at party leaders, with calls for resignations. The clash lands as Representative Chris Pappas leaves his seat to run for the Senate seat held by Jeanne Shaheen, who is retiring. In Maine, Angus King III has stayed quiet.

Short seller Jim Chanos closed a pairs trade that went long bitcoin and short Strategy’s common stock, betting the company’s premium to its bitcoin holdings would shrink. It has: from nearly three times net asset value in November to about 1.2 times, while bitcoin rose roughly a third over 12 months and Strategy’s shares fell by more than a quarter. The move underscores Strategy’s funding strains — heavy convertibles and costly preferred stock, over $700mn in annual service costs, no operating cash flow — and lingering doubts about its claim of amplified bitcoin.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani named 74-year-old budget veteran Dean Fuleihan his first deputy mayor, the incoming administration’s first major hire as it eyes more than $10 billion in socialist proposals amid a nearly $5 billion gap. Fuleihan, a former de Blasio first deputy and budget director who advised Mamdani, won praise from ex-adviser Emma Wolfe as a valuable public official. The pick comes as impending federal funding cuts threaten plans like free buses and universal child care; Gov. Kathy Hochul backs child care but funding remains unresolved. Mamdani also elevated campaign architect Elle Bisgaard-Church as top adviser.

House Speaker Mike Johnson urged members to return to Washington so the House can vote quickly on a Senate deal to end the longest U.S. government shutdown in history, which began Oct. 1. A day after senators narrowly advanced the first stage, he said votes are expected this week and promised a 36-hour notice. "Long days and long nights" lie ahead, he said. The weekend deal hit the 60-vote threshold with 52 Republicans, seven Democrats and one independent who caucuses with Democrats, and it excludes extending enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits.

From Dorado Beach to a WeWork in Milan, top hedge funds are sweetening the deal to keep star traders from defecting. The multistrategy giants including Millennium, Point72, Citadel and Balyasny are offering relocation to tax havens, bespoke titles and guarantees that can top $100 million, funded in part by pass-through fees. With headcounts surging and PM churn near 20%, managers are softening once-cutthroat policies and pleading for loyalty. Investors grumble over costs, smaller rivals buckle, and an internal recruiting arms race intensifies as firms hunt scarce talent.

Week 10 brought chaos on and off the field: after a Jets fire sale sent Sauce Gardner to Indianapolis and Quinnen Williams to Dallas, Jonathan Taylor tore through Berlin for 244 yards and three TDs, clinching the Colts’ 31-25 OT win and 8-2 start. Upsets hit as the Jets, Dolphins and Saints all won, with Miami routing Buffalo. New England continued its revival, 28-23 at Tampa Bay. A blowout late slate featured President Donald Trump, the first sitting president at an NFL game since Jimmy Carter, as Detroit crushed Washington, Seattle routed Arizona and the Rams thumped San Francisco.
