House Speaker Mike Johnson urged members to return to Washington so the House can vote quickly on a Senate deal to end the longest U.S. government shutdown in history, which began Oct. 1. A day after senators narrowly advanced the first stage, he said votes are expected this week and promised a 36-hour notice. "Long days and long nights" lie ahead, he said. The weekend deal hit the 60-vote threshold with 52 Republicans, seven Democrats and one independent who caucuses with Democrats, and it excludes extending enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits.
