Meta has begun texting and emailing thousands of young Australians, urging them to download their data and delete accounts before a world-first ban on accounts for under‑16s takes effect. Suspected underage users will start losing access from Dec. 4; broader rules begin Dec. 10 across Meta apps and other platforms. Meta estimates hundreds of thousands of 13‑to‑15s use its services and offers Yoti age checks for those flagged in error. The government warns of fines up to A$50 million, while a parents’ group broadly backs the shift.

James Franklin walked into Cassell Coliseum to the thrum of Virginia Tech’s Enter Sandman and was introduced as the Hokies’ football coach, the first Power Four hire of this cycle. The 53-year-old, fired by Penn State on Oct. 12 after a third straight loss, signed a five-year deal and vowed alignment with an athletic department planning $229 million in new investment. Cited as a proven recruiter with Mid-Atlantic ties, Franklin owns a 68.1% win rate and eight bowl victories. He greeted Frank Beamer and said the program must look, feel, smell and operate like big-time.

His father beamed, noting the campus is “only 20 minutes from the house.” The reclassified 2027 star strengthens first-year coach Buzz Williams’s class, which included Kaden House, Adama Tambedou and Austin Brown and was ranked No. 13 before his pledge. San Francisco 49ers tailback Christian McCaffrey is dominating more than defenses. On buses and planes he challenges teammates to anagram races and wins so often that George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk say it is not even fun. McCaffrey has reached the 1000 level on chess.com and rarely finds takers in the locker room; guard Dominick Puni is the lone challenger. Raised in a home full of chessboards, he also leads the NFL with 1,439 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns, including three in a rout of the Cardinals.

The Bills ruled out tight end Dalton Kincaid for a second straight game, head coach Sean McDermott said on WGR 550, after a hamstring kept him out of Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers. He didn't practice all week and won't play Thursday night against the Texas. Buffalo also ruled out receivers Curtis Samuel (elbow, neck) and Mecole Hardman (calf). Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes man tight end, with Keleki Latu a candidate for another elevation. Keon Coleman was inactive for disciplinary reasons last week, and McDermott wouldn't say if he'll return.

POV style YouTube ads are pushing wandlike AI scanner pens that promise instant answers on paper exams. Testing a $68.99 model, the device lit pages and sometimes read text, but its Q&A mode spit out nonsense, once offering a volcano fact to a question about the layer beneath Earth’s crust. Bulky and menued in Chinese, it did manage basic translation across six languages. As a cheating tool, though, it fell short. Students said a simpler tactic persists: snap a photo of a printed question and send it to ChatGPT, including in large lecture halls or during bathroom breaks.

The Dutch government returned control of chipmaker Nexperia to Chinese parent Wingtech, seeking to ease tensions over electronics supply chains. Minister Vincent Karremans said the decision followed consultations with European and international partners and constructive meetings with Chinese authorities, describing it as a show of good will. The Netherlands had taken temporary control on Sept. 30 after a U.S. trade blacklist expansion. Uncertainty over Nexperia’s chips had stirred concern among automakers like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz; Nissan has already cut output at two plants. Talks with China will continue.
