Ecuador releases survivor of US strike on 'drug sub' in Caribbean

Ecuador freed an Ecuadorean man rescued after a US strike on a semi-submersible alleged to be smuggling drugs in the Caribbean, saying prosecutors had no crime report to hold him. He and Colombian survivor Jeison Obando Pérez—the first known survivors of such US strikes—were captured after the attack, in which two others died, according to Donald Trump. The US says at least seven strikes since September have killed 32 people. Experts question the legality, while Washington says it is targeting 'narco-terrorists' amid a vast regional deployment.
