Two young girls were hospitalized after being thrown from a Ferris wheel at the Harvest Festival on False River in New Roads around noon Saturday, Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said. Both are under 13; one was airlifted, and their conditions have not been released. The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating. Witness Madison Fields said the bucket appeared to catch on wires, flip, and dump the riders; she heard a loud boom and saw one girl fall face-first. “Our hearts go out to the families,” Thibodeaux said.
