Venezuelan opposition leader and industrial engineer Maria Corina Machado has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in promoting democratic rights in Venezuela. The Nobel Committee praised Machado as a 'brave and committed champion of peace' who has led the struggle for democracy against expanding authoritarianism. Machado, who founded the Atenea Foundation and the pro-democracy Soy Venezuela alliance, was recognized for uniting the opposition, resisting militarization, and supporting a peaceful transition to democracy. The award ceremony will take place on December 10 in Oslo, Norway.
