McALESTER, Okla. — The state executed Raymond E. Johnson, 52, on May 14 after administering a three-drug lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, officials said. Johnson was convicted in the June 23, 2007 killings of Brooke Whitaker, 24, and their 7-month-old daughter Kya after prosecutors said he bludgeoned Whitaker and set the home on fire. Oklahoma Department of Corrections Director Justin Farris said Johnson was pronounced dead at 10:12 a.m. CDT; authorities confirmed the protocol used midazolam, vecuronium bromide and potassium chloride. During the procedure Johnson apologized to the victims' family and a spiritual adviser read scripture, following clemency review in April and the court-ordered sentence carried out Thursday morning.
