BOISE, Idaho - Idaho Power warned residents in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon on Wednesday that high winds could cause power outages across its service area. The utility said in a Facebook post that it was already seeing outages affecting people in eastern Oregon; two outages in Halfway were under investigation as of 11:30 a.m., and one outage in Cascade was confirmed to be weather-related. The company's outage page listed multiple "weather-related outages" in the western part of its service area but did not detail the number or severity. KTVB contacted Idaho Power for an estimate of customers affected but had not received a response by publication. The company urged people to stay at least 100 feet from any downed power line and to assume it is energized and dangerous, calling 911 or Idaho Power. Wind advisories remain in effect through 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, and Idaho Power has posted outage-preparedness tips and will host virtual meetings on outage preparedness and wildfire prevention in June.
