South Carolina Quarantines Students Amid Measles Spike

South Carolina health officials say at least 153 unvaccinated students from two Spartanburg County schools—Global Academy of South Carolina and Fairforest Elementary—are quarantined for 21 days after measles exposures. The outbreak has reached at least eight cases, with 11 measles cases reported statewide this year. Nationally, the U.S. has logged at least 1,563 cases and 44 outbreaks, the most since 1992, according to CDC data. Falling MMR vaccination rates—down from over 95% of kindergarteners pre-pandemic to 92.5% last year—leave an estimated 286,000 kindergarteners unprotected.
