A South Lake Tahoe resident tested positive for plague, likely contracted from an infected flea bite while camping. This is the second recent plague case; another person died from the disease in Arizona last month. While plague is rare, with about seven cases annually in the US, it's naturally present in parts of the West. The disease is curable with prompt antibiotic treatment. Health officials emphasize that the risk to the public remains low.
