Harlem Legionnaires' Outbreak: Three Dead, Dozens Sick

A Legionnaires' disease outbreak in central Harlem, New York City, has resulted in three deaths and over 70 illnesses. The outbreak, initially detected on July 25th, prompted an investigation by the NYC Department of Health. Eleven cooling towers tested positive for Legionella bacteria, and remediation has been completed. Health officials urge residents in affected ZIP codes (10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, 10039) experiencing flu-like symptoms to seek immediate medical attention, especially those over 50, smokers, or with chronic lung conditions. Legionnaires' disease is a serious pneumonia treatable with antibiotics.
