Air Pollution Drives Lung Cancer Mutations in Never-Smokers

Read, Watch or Listen

A global study published in Nature reveals a strong link between air pollution and lung cancer-causing DNA mutations in never-smokers. Researchers analyzed 871 lung tumors from never-smokers across the globe, finding a correlation between higher pollution levels and increased cancer-driving mutations, particularly in the TP53 gene. This explains the rising number of lung cancer cases in non-smokers, a concerning trend highlighted by scientists. The study also identified a link between certain Chinese herbal medicines and mutations in never-smokers.
