Zepbound Outperforms Wegovy in Obesity Drug Trial

Read, Watch or Listen

A head-to-head study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reveals Eli Lilly's Zepbound (tirzepatide) led to significantly greater weight loss than Novo Nordisk's Wegovy (semaglutide) in overweight or obese individuals without diabetes. Participants using Zepbound lost an average of 50 pounds over 72 weeks, compared to 33 pounds for Wegovy users. While Zepbound demonstrated superior efficacy, both drugs offer important tools in combating obesity, affecting roughly 40% of American adults. Both drugs caused mostly mild side effects, and access and affordability remain challenges despite recent price reductions.
