Starting May 7, 2025, REAL ID-compliant identification will be mandatory for all domestic air travel within the U.S. This follows years of delays, most recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Acceptable IDs include REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or identification cards, enhanced driver's licenses, passports, and other TSA-approved documents. Standard state IDs will no longer be accepted for domestic flights after this date. Washington residents can obtain a compliant Enhanced Driver's License or Enhanced Identification Card, which meet federal REAL ID standards.
