Two American Airlines planes collided on the runway at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. American Airlines Flight 5490 struck Flight 4522 around 12:45 p.m., causing minor damage to a winglet on each plane. At least three members of Congress were aboard one of the flights, but no injuries were reported. American Airlines confirmed limited damage and the planes are out of service for inspection. Airport officials stated that flight operations were unaffected. The incident follows a fatal helicopter-plane collision at the same airport in January, raising concerns about airport overcrowding previously voiced by lawmakers.
