Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has placed a hold on all Justice Department political nominees due to concerns over the Trump administration's plan to accept a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar as Air Force One. Schumer cites national security risks and potential Emoluments Clause violations. He demands answers regarding security measures, costs, and potential quid pro quo arrangements. While the White House claims compliance with the law, several Republicans, including Senators Thune, Murkowski, and Rounds, voiced concerns about the offer's implications for national security and ethics.

A federal school voucher bill, allocating $5 billion for private school tuition, homeschooling, and virtual learning, is nearing passage. This House Republican budget proposal marks a significant victory for private school choice advocates, potentially extending vouchers nationwide for the first time. While celebrated as historic, the bill still faces further legislative hurdles.

President Trump's decision to lift sanctions on Syria and meet with its leader, Ahmad al Sharaa, is a politically risky move. Sharaa, formerly wanted by the U.S. for leading a rebel group, now heads Syria's government. The move could alienate Trump's supporters and Israel, who harbor concerns about Syria's ability to combat ISIS and protect minorities. This meeting marks the first bilateral summit between the U.S. and Syria since 2000, signifying a major shift in U.S. foreign policy.

The Trump administration announced an additional $450 million in grant terminations to Harvard University, citing alleged antisemitism and race discrimination. This follows the cancellation of $2.2 billion in federal funding last week. The administration accuses Harvard of prioritizing appeasement over accountability and failing to address these issues. Harvard is already suing the administration over the initial funding cuts, claiming the demands are illegal and infringe on academic freedom. The administration's demands include restructuring Harvard's governance and altering hiring and admissions practices.

Six lawsuits challenge President Trump's tariffs, deemed an 'unprecedented and unlawful expansion' of executive power by plaintiffs. A federal court heard the first case, arguing Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to justify tariffs on trade deficits, a long-standing issue, is unlawful. Small businesses claim irreparable harm, while the Department of Justice defends the President's actions, citing Congressional authorization and national security. The court previously rejected an emergency request to block the tariffs.

Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, are blocking all Trump administration Justice Department nominations. This is in protest of the White House's plan to accept a luxury aircraft from Qatar for presidential use. Schumer calls the proposal "naked corruption" and demands answers regarding its constitutionality and security implications, including testimony from Attorney General Pam Bondi. The hold, while not a complete block, forces Republicans to expend floor time on individual confirmations. Concerns extend beyond party lines, with Republicans raising espionage and national security risks. The White House defends the plan as legal and a "nice gesture", while claiming the Democrats are prioritizing politics.

Global leaders convened in Riyadh for the Saudi Arabia Investment Forum, focusing on AI and global trade. President Trump met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, resulting in significant US-Saudi deals. These include a $600 billion Saudi investment in the US across various sectors and a $142 billion arms deal. Tech giants like Nvidia (AI chips), Tesla's Elon Musk, and Amazon's Andy Jassy were present, highlighting the forum's importance in shaping global tech and economic relations.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faced criticism for posting photos of himself and his family swimming in Rock Creek, a park where swimming is prohibited due to high bacteria levels. The National Park Service warns against water contact due to health hazards. This incident adds to the controversy surrounding Kennedy, who has previously faced scrutiny for other actions, including past social media posts and his outspoken anti-vaccine views.

The White House announced a nearly $142 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia, touted as the largest in history. The agreement encompasses air force, missile defense, maritime security, land forces modernization, and cybersecurity upgrades, along with training. While details remain scarce, the deal's finalization is uncertain. Experts anticipate Saudi air defense recapitalization, particularly Patriot systems, but the inclusion of F-35 fighters remains questionable due to technological security concerns related to potential foreign intelligence gathering.

President Trump's administration is considering accepting a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar as a gift, sparking controversy. Democrats deem the action potentially illegal, citing constitutional clauses prohibiting gifts from foreign leaders without congressional approval. The White House denies any illegality, stating the plane is for the Defense Department and will eventually go to Trump's presidential library. The legality is debated, with experts highlighting potential violations of gift laws and the possibility of Trump using the plane post-presidency. The plane's transfer to the Pentagon, then Trump's museum, is argued to not circumvent potential legal issues. Trump's visit to the Middle East coincides with business deals involving his sons.
