President Trump concluded a highly successful Middle Eastern trip, receiving accolades and significant investment pledges. In Saudi Arabia, he lifted sanctions on Syria to a standing ovation. Qatar pledged billions in US investments, and the UAE awarded him their highest civilian honor. This trip stands in stark contrast to the domestic challenges Trump faces.

The American Federation of Musicians (AFM) released a statement defending Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen after President Trump attacked them on social media. The AFM president, Tino Gagliardi, condemned Trump's personal attacks, praising Swift and Springsteen as role models and highlighting their musical contributions. The statement emphasized musicians' right to freedom of expression and affirmed the union's solidarity with its members. Trump's posts on Truth Social criticized both artists, referencing Swift's past political stances and calling Springsteen "dumb as a rock". This follows previous instances where Springsteen publicly criticized Trump.

A four-minute audio clip from President Biden's 2023 special counsel interview, released by Axios, reveals him struggling to recall key dates. The clip shows Biden's difficulty remembering dates related to his son's death, Trump's election, and his time as vice president. This comes after the release of a transcript in 2024 and the Biden administration's prior blocking of the audio's release. The full interview recording is expected to be released by the Trump administration.

The US Department of Homeland Security is considering a reality TV show proposal where immigrants compete for US citizenship. The show, pitched by Rob Worsoff, would feature challenges based on American traditions, culminating in the winner's naturalization. Department spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin stated the pitch is under review, emphasizing it's one of many received annually. The proposal comes amid a controversial immigration crackdown under Secretary Kristi Noem, who has faced criticism for her approach to enforcement. Worsoff assures the show isn't punitive, with losing contestants not facing deportation.

Former FBI Director James Comey is under investigation after posting a picture of seashells on Instagram that some interpreted as a threat against President Trump. The post, showing shells arranged to look like "86 47", prompted accusations of advocating assassination. Comey claims he didn't realize the numbers' violent connotations, and the post was quickly deleted. The Secret Service interviewed Comey as part of the ongoing investigation, the outcome of which rests with Attorney General Pam Bondi. Trump insists Comey's intent was clear, while Comey denies any threat was intended.

California has extended various benefits to undocumented immigrants, including healthcare and education, a trend followed by other Democratic-led states. This practice, funded by the states themselves, was believed to be immune to federal intervention. However, the Trump administration is challenging these state initiatives, putting pressure on Democrats, including potential presidential candidates, who face internal debates on the scope of such benefits.

Trump's immigration policies led to a surge in homelessness among asylum seekers and migrants. Mass deportations, the halting of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program, and funding cuts to HUD contributed to a significant increase in homelessness, particularly in New York City (53% rise). Migrants face challenges securing work permits, leaving many families without income and housing. Experts highlight the devastating impact of these policies on vulnerable populations, emphasizing the urgent need for increased funding and support programs.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested 20,000 National Guard troops to aid in nationwide immigration roundups, a request the Pentagon is reviewing. DHS aims to enforce President Trump's mandate to arrest and deport undocumented immigrants, citing the safety of American citizens. These troops, unlike those at the border, would assist with interior deportations, potentially operating under state governors' control due to the Posse Comitatus Act. The request significantly increases immigration enforcement capacity, exceeding ICE's current staff of roughly 20,000. The rationale behind the request to the Defense Department rather than directly to states remains unclear.

A federal appeals court temporarily halted a lower court's injunction blocking the Trump administration's attempt to curtail federal employee union rights. Two Republican-appointed judges on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the injunction, allowing the administration to resume its actions while the case proceeds. They argued the union hadn't proven irreparable harm, while a dissenting judge countered that the administration's claims of irreparable harm were inconsistent and lacked merit. The stay permits the administration to proceed with its union-busting campaign, despite a prior ruling that the executive order was a pretext for retaliation against unions.

A federal judge sharply criticized the Trump administration for its refusal to fully cooperate in returning Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father wrongly deported to El Salvador. The judge, Paula Xinis, deemed the government's efforts a lack of "good faith," citing the withholding of information behind claims of state secrets. Despite a Supreme Court ruling and the administration's admission of the deportation error, Garcia remains imprisoned. The government argues it lacks authority to repatriate him from El Salvador, while Garcia's family and legal team contest this, highlighting public statements by high-ranking officials contradicting the government's claims of secrecy. The judge has indicated further action is likely.
