Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused former US President Trump of using power for violence, not peace, citing actions in Gaza and elsewhere. Khamenei reiterated threats against Israel, calling for its removal. Despite the harsh rhetoric, Iran and the US are negotiating a new nuclear deal. Iran's top advisor proposed commitments to never develop nuclear weapons in exchange for sanctions relief, but the US, under Trump's influence, seeks a deal different from the JCPOA. Iran insists on maintaining its right to a peaceful nuclear program.

Colombia has applied to join the China-led New Development Bank, signifying a shift in Latin American relations away from the U.S. President Gustavo Petro's visit to China included a meeting with the bank's head, Dilma Rousseff, and a commitment to purchase $512 million in shares. This move, following Uruguay's application in 2021, aims to secure funding for infrastructure projects, including a canal connecting Colombia's Atlantic and Pacific coasts. While Colombia is a traditional U.S. ally, Petro emphasizes the country's neutrality in the face of U.S. opposition to China's involvement in Latin America.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore vetoed 23 bills, including a highly publicized reparations study commission bill and legislation examining data center impacts. The vetoes sparked swift, angry reactions from lawmakers, who plan to pursue overrides. Moore's decision, particularly concerning the reparations bill, drew criticism from the Legislative Black Caucus, who highlighted the bill's focus solely on studying historical inequality, not demanding payments. Other vetoed bills included studies on climate change and its effects on the state. The governor's office cited no specific concerns about the bills during the legislative session.

President Trump concluded a Middle Eastern trip focused on dealmaking, announcing new investment agreements and lifting sanctions on Syria, meeting with its leader. While achieving some economic goals, major breakthroughs on the Ukraine conflict, Israel-Hamas situation, and Iran nuclear talks remained elusive. Despite the lack of progress on these global issues, some Democrats praised Trump's actions regarding Syria. The trip was marked by lavish displays of hospitality from host nations and Trump's continued attacks on domestic political rivals.

The UK hosts its first EU summit since Brexit, aiming to improve relations and the existing trade agreement. While no major new deal is expected, the summit, held at Lancaster House with a warship as a lunch venue, seeks to address issues like security cooperation, administrative burdens for farmers, and youth mobility. The government hopes to showcase progress, portraying it as a practical improvement to the Brexit deal rather than a significant policy shift. Negotiations are ongoing, with potential agreements on areas like energy, migration, and data sharing.

Newly released audio from a special counsel's investigation appears to confirm instances of memory lapses by President Joe Biden. The recordings, from October 2023 interviews, show Biden struggling to recall key dates, including his son Beau's death and Donald Trump's election. While Biden's staff attempted corrections, the audio adds context to the written transcript released last year. The report, which did not recommend charges, described Biden as having a poor memory. This revelation follows Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race due to age concerns and Trump's subsequent victory over Kamala Harris. The audio also includes tangential conversations, highlighting Biden's cognitive abilities. The article also notes similar instances of memory lapses in President Trump.

Dutch historian Rutger Bregman's new book, "Moral Ambition," challenges high-achievers to redirect their talents towards solving societal problems. Bregman argues that many successful individuals focus solely on self-advancement, neglecting opportunities for meaningful social impact. His book and the School for Moral Ambition, a non-profit he co-founded, aim to inspire these individuals to pursue more fulfilling and socially beneficial careers, shifting their ambitions from personal gain to collective good, despite the current global climate of strife.

Roughly 60,000 metric tons of food, enough to feed 3.5 million people for a month, is rotting in warehouses due to the Trump administration's drastic cuts to USAID funding. The $98 million worth of food, intended for regions like Gaza and Sudan, is now at risk of being destroyed. This failure is attributed to the abrupt halt of contracts and funds needed for distribution. The cuts have already resulted in preventable deaths, with charities reporting increased starvation and mortality rates in affected areas. Internal proposals to release the food await approval from the Office of Foreign Assistance, causing further delays.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is attempting to expand its influence beyond executive branch agencies, contacting nearly 40 entities. DOGE staffers, many young and inexperienced, have sought to embed within these organizations, sometimes resulting in staff dismissals and program cuts. Some organizations, including the Government Accountability Office, have resisted DOGE's efforts, citing their independence from executive orders. DOGE's actions, driven by President Trump's budget proposals, aim to reduce government spending, though the impact on the overall federal budget is minimal.

Leonardo Baez and his wife, Nora Alicia Avila, owners of Abby's Bakery in Los Fresnos, Texas, face up to 10 years in prison for allegedly harboring undocumented workers. Federal agents raided their bakery in February, leading to charges against the couple. The case highlights the impact of President Trump's immigration policies on a community where many voted for him despite the potential consequences for local businesses reliant on undocumented labor.
