Bucharest Mayor Dan, re-elected amidst political turmoil, prioritizes family life over opulent living. He's critical of Trump's approach to the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing Ukrainian self-determination in peace negotiations. Despite his calm demeanor, Romania faces economic hardship and political instability. Dan desires a normal life for his children, even considering security risks, preferring a modest home over a palace.

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson signed a $78 billion budget including a significant tax increase, despite previous statements against tax hikes. The package includes increased gas taxes, B&O taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes. While Ferguson claims the budget protects core services, Republicans criticized the move, arguing it will harm families and businesses already struggling with affordability. The governor acknowledged potential negative impacts and the possibility of future adjustments, but expressed reluctance to call a special session.

Elon Musk's significant financial backing of a Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate proved unsuccessful, leading to his announcement of reduced future political spending. The race, the most expensive state court election in US history, saw Musk's candidate lose by a substantial margin despite Musk's high-profile involvement, including personal appearances and substantial financial contributions. Democrats celebrated this as a victory against Musk's influence, while Republicans acknowledged his 'toxic' image in Wisconsin, though his future political involvement remains uncertain. Musk's spending included direct contributions, support for affiliated groups, and incentives for voter participation.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem faced questioning during a Senate hearing regarding the DHS 2026 budget. Senator Maggie Hassan corrected Noem's inaccurate definition of habeas corpus, highlighting its importance as a fundamental right. Noem also denied involvement in a reported reality TV show centered on immigrants competing for citizenship, criticizing The Wall Street Journal's reporting on the matter as false and inaccurate.

Texas Rep. Chip Roy defied President Trump's pressure to support a year-end spending bill that would suspend the debt limit. Trump publicly criticized Roy, calling him an obstructionist seeking cheap publicity. Roy delivered a strong speech against the bill, highlighting its massive debt increase, and continues to resist Trump's pressure on other policy matters. This highlights an ongoing clash between Roy and Trump within the Republican party.

President Trump's claims regarding Middle Eastern investment in the US have fluctuated wildly. Initially announcing $4 trillion, the figure rose to $7 trillion by Tuesday. These claims, lacking detailed substantiation, include $600 billion from Saudi Arabia (announced in January), $1.2 trillion from Qatar, and $200 billion from the UAE. The White House hasn't clarified the source of the escalating figures, raising questions about the actual investment commitments.

House Speaker Mike Johnson expected President Trump to sway Republican holdouts on a reconciliation bill, particularly those opposed due to the state and local tax deduction. However, Trump's efforts proved unsuccessful, leaving the bill's passage uncertain. Moderate Republicans like Rep. Nick LaLota had hoped Trump's influence would secure enough votes, but his attempt to act as a 'closer' fell short of expectations.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem incorrectly defined habeas corpus, stating it allows the president to remove people from the country and suspend their rights. Senator Maggie Hassan corrected her, emphasizing its role in protecting individuals from unlawful detention. The Trump administration is reportedly exploring suspending habeas corpus to expand deportation powers, citing a potential "invasion" of migrants. Legal experts doubt the administration's success, given past judicial skepticism towards similar efforts and the constitutional requirement for Congressional authorization to suspend habeas corpus, which is unlikely to happen given current political divides.

Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa accused former Vice President Kamala Harris and former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra of complicity in concealing President Biden's cognitive decline, contributing to Trump's 2024 election win. Villaraigosa's claims stem from excerpts of a new book, "Original Sin," alleging a cover-up by Biden's inner circle. Becerra defended his work with Biden, while Harris's office hasn't responded. The book details Biden's alleged decade-long decline and the efforts to hide it from voters.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the Trump administration's foreign policy decisions during a Senate hearing. He highlighted achievements such as resumed nuclear talks with Iran and efforts to mediate the Gaza conflict, while asserting that budget cuts would improve America's international standing. Democrats criticized the administration for slashing foreign aid, suspending refugee admissions (with an exception for white Afrikaners from South Africa), and undermining decades of foreign policy investments. Republicans also voiced concerns about the drastic budget cuts. Rubio stated the US is encouraging, but not threatening, Israel to resume humanitarian aid to Gaza and that any Palestinian departures would be voluntary.
