Jaguar Land Rover confirmed plans to eliminate 4,000 positions across its global workforce over the next two years as part of a major cost-cutting initiative. Britain's largest automaker aims to secure 1.7 billion pounds in structural savings to enhance competitiveness during the automotive industry's ongoing transition toward electrification. Chief executive PB Balaji noted that the company faces intense global competition, technological shifts, and geopolitical uncertainty. The downsizing strategy is designed to free up capital for a projected 15 billion to 18 billion pound investment in electric vehicles and digital technologies over five years. The company has experienced slumping profits due to rising operating costs, cheaper Chinese electric vehicle imports, and U.S. tariff policies impacting vehicle exports. Owned by India's Tata Motors, the manufacturer employs approximately 34,000 workers in the United Kingdom, where the majority of the announced staff reductions are expected to occur. Prime Minister Andy Burnham's administration stated that no government bailout will be considered.
