Some Roku OS users learned that their favorite Aquatic Life screensaver will no longer be available as of December first.

The screensaver, called the Marine Aquarium, had been an option for Roku OS users for ten years, licensed from artist Jim Sachs through Prolific Publishing.

Sachs, the creator and copyright holder, developed the screensaver through his company SereneScreen.

The licensing agreement with Roku renews each October and can be canceled by either party.

After learning that Fox was planning to buy Roku, a deal that closed today, Sachs told Prolific he would not renew Roku’s license.

He cited a desire to avoid association with Fox’s media style.

Roku will automatically switch affected devices to the Roku City screensaver, which includes subtle advertisements.
