Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 208,724 vehicles across the United States due to a potential defect involving the right-side steering rack mounting bolt, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The safety action covers certain 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SUVs, 2018 through 2019 Volkswagen Atlas SUVs, and 2019 through 2021 Audi Q3 compact luxury vehicles. Regulatory filings indicate that the mounting bolt can experience severe corrosion over time, potentially causing the component to fracture and lead to a sudden loss of steering control while driving. Authorized Volkswagen and Audi dealerships will replace the affected steering rack mounting bolt with a newly engineered, corrosion-resistant version free of charge. Vehicle owners are scheduled to receive notification letters by mail starting November 10, 2026. Manufacturer representatives confirmed that neither Volkswagen nor Audi has received any reports of crashes, injuries, deaths, or warranty claims associated with the steering defect within the North American region prior to the official recall announcement.
