The Federal Trade Commission, joined by twenty-two state attorneys general, filed an antitrust and consumer fraud lawsuit against Amazon on Tuesday. The federal complaint alleges that Amazon defrauded approximately one point two million advertising customers by artificially inflating auction prices and misrepresenting advertising costs. FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson stated that millions of businesses were misled into paying higher prices through deceptive practices. Amazon strongly denied the allegations, maintaining that its advertising tools operate transparently and fairly for merchants. In response to the regulatory action and broader macroeconomic pressures, United States financial markets experienced a sharp downturn. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell zero point seven nine percent, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped one point zero three percent. Treasury yields advanced, with the two-year yield climbing to four point three seven percent. Meanwhile, technology shares, semiconductor manufacturers, and digital asset markets sustained steep losses amid heightened regulatory scrutiny and widespread risk aversion.
