Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers via sign-and-trade after declining to play in the postseason. During the 2026 NBA playoffs first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Watson was medically cleared by Denver staff but refused to play, creating organizational friction. Watson averaged 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during the 2025-26 regular season while shooting 41.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Nuggets previously offered a five-year, $70 million extension before shipping Watson alongside draft compensation, generating substantial luxury tax relief considerations for Denver. Cleveland's acquisition secures a young perimeter contributor on a multi-year deal with a player option and trade kicker. Agent Rich Paul advised the player to protect his long-term health and financial standing.
