Musk’s SpaceX Shocks Energy Market with Turbine Play

SpaceX confirmed plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Bastrop, Texas, dedicated to producing blades and vanes for large industrial gas turbines. Chief Executive Elon Musk announced the initiative on social media, asserting that in-house production could curtail turbine delivery timelines by up to 18 months. The strategic move coincides with a historic surge in global energy demand driven by artificial intelligence data center expansion. According to JPMorgan data, second-quarter global gas turbine orders increased 71 percent year-over-year to 38 gigawatts, with the United States representing nearly half of all procurement. SpaceX has initiated hiring for advanced operations, materials, and automation engineers to scale the specialized casting line. Industry analysts note that extreme thermal operational requirements restrict global casting capabilities to only four foundries worldwide, leaving major suppliers like GE Vernova booked through 2030 and creating acute delivery bottlenecks across the domestic power sector.
