The broadcasting error occurred on the program Laura Coates Live approximately twelve hours following the public announcement of Parton passing away from cancer at age eighty. The incorrect image featured fifty-eight-year-old tribute performer Kelly Vohnn on a December red carpet in Nevada. The New York Post initially broke the story regarding the visual mix-up, prompting CNN to release a brief statement expressing regret to the Parton family. Vohnn subsequently discussed the surreal media incident with journalists as around-the-clock tributes continued across major networks.
