Canada Sweeps USA in Volleyball Finals, Ends 13-Year Curse

Canada defeated the United States women’s national volleyball team three sets to two in the NORCECA Continental Championship final on August 26, 2026, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The victory ended a thirteen-year losing streak against the United States and secured Canada its first-ever title in the regional tournament. The set scores concluded twenty-five to twenty-three, twenty-five to twenty-three, twenty-twenty-five, eighteen-twenty-five, and fifteen-ten in the decisive fifth set. Canadian head coach Giovanni Guidetti deployed a strategic substitution in the final set, bringing in Kiera Van Ryk to deliver five consecutive serves that established a critical lead. Four Canadian players scored in double figures, led by Alexa Gray with twenty points. The tournament win earned Canada twenty-seven point seventy-five world ranking points, lifting them to eighth globally and closing the gap on seventh-ranked China ahead of the upcoming Olympic qualification tournament.
