Judge questions why Kennedy Center is moving so quickly to return Trump’s name to building

A federal judge on Thursday sharply questioned why the Kennedy Center is rushing to re-inscribe President Donald Trump's name on its facade by Sept. 8, just months after he ruled the initial addition illegal. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper interrupted the Trump administration's lawyer, Bradley Mayers, asking "What's magic about that date?" and pressing on what Congress intended in the governing statutes. The Trump-aligned board voted earlier this month to add the inscription "Restored and Renovated By President Donald J. Trump". The Justice Department has warned the center could face demolition without the renovation plan tied to Trump's recognition. Cooper postponed a ruling, allowing both sides to file more arguments, and questioned his own jurisdiction given the ongoing appeal of his May decision.
