A powerful storm system spawned tornadoes and unleashed widespread flash flooding across the Northeast U.S. on Thursday, prompting states of emergency in multiple communities . In Dover, Delaware, a confirmed tornado heavily damaged two hotels, including the Super Lodge and Days Inn, ripping off sections of their roofs . No serious injuries were reported in the city . In Nassau County, New York, a waterspout came ashore as a tornado in Atlantic Beach, destroying or damaging approximately 30 to 50 cabanas at the Sun and Surf Beach Club . County Executive Bruce Blakeman declared a state of emergency . A worker was injured but declined treatment . The National Weather Service has confirmed the tornado touchdown in Atlantic Beach, with a second waterspout in the Rockaways still under investigation . Flash flooding caused havoc across the region, notably in Jersey City, New Jersey, where 69 people were rescued from flooded vehicles . Severe flooding also shut down parts of the Long Island Expressway and inundated New York City subway stations .
