Indiana Governor Mike Braun has declared a state of disaster emergency after severe storms, tornadoes, and a derecho triggered historic flash flooding across the state, resulting in at least five fatalities. Relentless downpours dropped more than eleven inches of rain in parts of central Indiana over a two-day period, pushing rivers like the White River to levels surpassing century-old records. First responders executed numerous water rescues and mandatory evacuations as neighborhoods submerged. Fatalities included a woman whose car was swept away, a teenager who entered a swollen river, and a young child killed by a falling tree.
