Deadly Midwest Storms Kill 3, Leave 800,000 Without Power

Powerful storms swept across the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday, leaving at least three people dead and more than 800,000 customers without power across four states, officials said. A four-year-old child died after a tree fell on his home in Geneva Township, Indiana, according to Jennings County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Cody Low. In Portage, Indiana, a person died in a home explosion and fire that occurred after the storms moved through the area. Police said the cause of the explosion remained under investigation. In Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine said one person died after flooding obstructed first responders from reaching the individual in Roseville. DeWine signed a proclamation declaring a state of emergency in Perry and Muskingum counties, where severe flooding prompted swift water rescues. "Even after the storms exit the state, flooding will remain a serious concern," DeWine said.
