After guiding his alma mater to the College Football Playoff’s national championship game last season, Miami coach Mario Cristobal agreed to a long-term contract extension on Monday, multiple media outlets reported. Cristobal, a 55-year-old Miami native, is entering the fifth year of a 10-year deal slated to run through 2031. A new contract has yet to be announced. In Cristobal’s fourth year at the helm, Miami won a school-record 13 games and tied a program mark with seven AP Top 25 victories. In each season under Cristobal, the Hurricanes’ win has total increased, from five in 2022 to seven in 2023, 10 in 2024 and 13 in 2025. He is 35-19 at Miami after spending four seasons as Oregon’s coach. After falling shy of its sixth national title in a loss to Indiana in January, Miami was voted as the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC championship in the preseason media poll last week. Miami kicks off the 2026 season with an ACC matchup at Stanford on Sept. 4.
