Missouri declared a state of emergency on Friday after intense storms caused flash flooding across multiple regions, forcing emergency responders to conduct more than 90 water rescues and respond to a building collapse into floodwaters at Bearcat Getaway Campground. Initial reports from the Reynolds County Sheriff's Office indicated between 10 and 17 people may have entered the water and five previously reported missing campers have been located and accounted for. Governor Mike Kehoe said activating the State Emergency Operations Plan allows faster coordination of resources while the National Weather Service warned of additional thunderstorms and an extended flood watch through the weekend with an expected two to four inches of more rain in some areas. Officials advised residents and motorists to avoid driving through floodwaters, and search-and-rescue teams remained active as forecasts indicated conditions could worsen overnight and into the coming days.
